What is the distance learning program like?

The features are similar to the traditional type of learning except that you do not have to attend classes regularly where you see your lacturer. What are the entry requirements to pursue a course by distance learning?

Entry requirements differ for each course just as is the case in a conventional university. For a degree program, five credits in West African School Certificate or its approved equivalent with credit passes in at least five subjects is the general requirement. Read the additional requirements for the course you wish to study.

Do I need to be online at any particular time to take my lectures?

If there is any need for all students to meet online at any particular time, students will be notified but generally the distance learning program is very flexible such that lecture notes, assignment, quizzes etc are uploaded by teachers and then students in their own time visit the site to download these materials  for their use.

Is there age restriction for intending students?

Distance learning institutions was originally meant for adults who could not get formal education due to the fact that they have to earn a living and they have families to cater for. So with distance learning, they could combine all of these obligations and still get education. However that has changed as young persons straight from secondary school can apply provided that are qualified.

How long will a degree program take? What is the expected number of years it takes to complete a degree program in distance learning mode?

What computer skill do I need to be able to take a distance learning course?

Ability to use the internet including how to send emails is very essential. You also need to be good at using Microsoft office software. If you have knowledge of these, learning to use the learning portal of the Uniben Centre for Distance Learning should not be an issue.

How often do I need to come to campus for my studies?

You will be required to come to campus at the beginning of your first year for orientation. You may need to meet with your counselor and other staff members for some advice and guidance. You will also need to physically be on campus to take your examinations.

After I am through with the clearance and registration process for a program, what next?

If you are a new student, you need to go online to the CDL portal to see if you can log in to your student page. If you are successful at logging in, try to familiarize yourself with the student environment of the portal. Otherwise, make a complaint.

Who are academic advisers?

You will meet your academic adviser during your orientation sessions. You should therefore endeavour to be present for the orientation program. Your academic adviser is to assist you as well as advice you on the course to register for and the resources available to you.

Every program has a program specific adviser. You are encouraged to regularly contact your adviser any time you have issues with any of your courses. Make the most of this service.
